SARAH SMITH, ACSW, LCSW-R
I obtained my Masters in Social Work from the NYS University at Buffalo in 1994. For a number of years I worked in community mental health settings, primarily working with mental health and addiction. Early on I noticed that there were barriers to treatment for women and worked to address those barriers. I also gained significant experience working with addictions and underlying trauma. In 2008 I was trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy and that was a powerful experience. EMDR is a unique, nontraditional form of psychotherapy designed to diminish negative feelings associated with memories of traumatic events. Unlike most forms of talk therapy, EMDR focuses less on the traumatic event itself and more on the disturbing emotions and symptoms that result from the event. The body is geared toward health and this treatment assists in resolving unresolved disturbances.
Since 2012 I have been in private practice and in 2014 I founded the Center for Clarity, LLC. My intention is to provide trauma-focused and person centered treatment.
