Sarah Smith, ACSW, LCSW-R is a NYS Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has over 25 years of post graduate experience. She worked for not for profit community agencies for many years prior to starting a private practice in 2012. Initially she worked in the field of chemical dependency and mental health. She developed specialties working with women who had addictions and trauma, and has continued to take continuing education and sought out supervision to enhance her skills in this area. In 2008 she was trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). That had a profound impact on the work she does and she continued to be trained and is currently an Approved EMDR Consultant.
In 2014 she founded the Center for Clarity in Amherst, NY. She continues to provide training, consultations and supervision on trauma and addictions. Most recently she did a training for the UB Continuing Education department on trauma and the use of self. This primarily focused on vicarious trauma that occurs while working as a therapist and the impact of that. It also included another section on vicarious resilience and what impacts therapists in a positive way. In addition to her professional experience, Sarah also has over 30 years in recovery and has shared this openly. She has been able to weave dimensions of that experience with her professional training to provide a complete treatment and training experience.
